Red Wing Pottery and the Pottery Place Mall. Historically, Red Wing has been famous for its pottery, and this tradition continues today. The Red Wing Pottery Company, which has been in business for over 140 years, is Red Wing's most popular tourist attraction. Visitors can watch and interact with potters at their kilns. When you're done, the mall also offers an array of unique shops, including a scrapbook store and a baby boutique.
The St. James Hotel. Build in 1875, this historic and elegant hotel was built to serve the thriving wheat industry of the day, and still remains a popular choice for weddings and other events. Rooms start at around $129, and the deluxe rooms offer a unique combination of old and new-- luxurious whirlpools and the sound of frequent passing trains. The Cannon Valley Trail. Paralleling the Cannon River, this 19.7 mile trail connects the cities of Red Wing, Welsh, and Cannon Falls. It was originally a branch of the Chicago Great Western Railway. Lake Pepin and the Pearl of the Lake Paddleboat Cruises. About 17 miles south of Red Wing is Lake City, where you'll find stunning Lake Pepin, a freshwater lake on the Mississippi River. The Pearl of the Lake is a modern-day replica of an old riverboat and is a great way to see Lake Pepin. Daily public excursions are $15.00 for adults and $8.00 for children ages 6-13.
