Minneapolis and St. Paul Area Lodging for Your Visit to the Fair

Need a hotel room for your visit to the Minnesota State Fair? Finding lodging can be frustrating because rooms fill up quickly for the fair, and because there aren't that many places to stay in the Falcon Heights area near the fairgrounds. Here's the trick: stay somewhere close to a Metro Transit bus route and take the bus to the fair. Because traffic and parking is such a nightmare, Metro Transit expands its bus service during the fair, and about 1 out of 3 locals take advantage of this!
So where should you stay? If you're looking for a hotel across the street from the fair, you're out of luck. The fair is smack dab in the middle of a residential neighborhood. These are the places to stay that are (a) not too far from the fair and (b) easily accessible by bus or shuttle.
- Best Western Bandana Square. 1010 Bandana Boulevard West, St. Paul. This train-themed hotel is only about a mile from the fair, so you can walk if you like-- or take the hotel's free shuttle to the fair. Rooms begin around $117 a night. 651-647-1637
- Radisson Hotel Roseville. 2540 North Cleveland Ave. Roseville. Located about 3 1/2 miles away in the nearby suburb of Roseville, this hotel offers free shuttle service to the fair. Guests can also catch an 84 bus from nearby Roseville Center Mall, which is only blocks away. Rooms begin around $105 a night. 651-636-4567.
- Motel 6 Minneapolis North-- Roseville. 2300 Cleveland Avenue North, Roseville. Also located about 3 1/2 miles from the fairgrounds, guests can walk a few blocks and catch the 84 bus from the mall to the fair. Rooms start at $41.39 a night. 651-639-3988.
- Holiday Inn Express Roseville- St. Paul. 2715 Long Lake Road, Roseville. This hotel is located about seven miles from the fair. Guests can park and ride at nearby Rosedale and catch the 84 bus, or catch the 801 bus to Rosedale. Rooms start at about $71 a night. 651-636-5800
- Holiday Inn Minneapolis-Metrodome. 1500 Washington Avenue South, Minneapolis. This hotel is five blocks from the Metrodome, so stop by for a Twins game! It's also close to the beautiful Guthrie theater. The fair is about 8 miles away, and guests can cross the street and catch the 3 bus. Rooms start around $124 a night. 612-333-4646.
- Best Western Kelly Inn. 161 St. Anthony Avenue, St. Paul. This hotel is only a mile to downtown St. Paul and about 6 miles from the fair. Guests can get to the fair on the nearby 3 bus. Rooms are about $84 a night. 651-227-8711.
- Holiday Inn St. Paul Downtown (Rivercentre). 175 West 7th Street, St. Paul. Located in the heart of downtown St. Paul near the Minnesota Science Center and lots of other attractions, this hotel is about 7 miles from the fair. Guests can catch the 3 bus. - Four Points by Sheraton Minneapolis. 1330 Industrial Boulevard, Minneapolis. This hotel is located in between the fair and downtown Minneapolis and is about 4 1/2 miles from the fairgrounds. They offer limited shuttle service to the fair, and during the weekends, there's a park and ride across the street where guests can catch a bus to the fair.
